Axis announced "the world's first camera with explosion protection"

AXIS P1468-XLE

International. This new video surveillance solution from Axis Communications, designed for hazardous areas and bullet body, AXIS P1468-XLE, ensures to be the first in the world with explosion protection.

This device, which is manufactured taking into account the international standards of Zone 2, 22 and class I/II/III Division 2 (ATEX, IECEx, NEC), is a solution designed for hazardous locations.

Similarly, AXIS P1468-XLE uses the 'Ex e' protection method, an explosion protection approach known as 'enhanced safety' or 'non-flammable'.

This method, according to the brand "ensures that no arcs or sparks can appear, and that excessive temperatures are not reached, during the normal operation of electrical equipment. As a result, electrical equipment using 'Ex e' protection cannot ignite gas or dust in the surrounding potentially combustible environment."

Characteristics
This device is a robust fixed camera, compact and lightweight design, resistant to weather conditions and impacts, which promises "excellent image quality in 4K resolution in any light condition, through Lightfinder 2.0, Forensic WDR and OptimizedIR".

Such features make its installation process like that of a standard camera.

As explained by Axis in the official release of the launch, this camera "has been designed in accordance with North American and European directives for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres." So by design it cannot provide enough energy to ignite gas or dust in the atmosphere, which detonates an explosion, so this solution does not require traditional protection, or explosion enclosure.

According to Axis it is a "multitasking camera provides many benefits within health and safety applications and operational efficiency. Early detection of smoke and fire, ensuring personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn and used, and monitoring restricted areas provide significant benefits for the health and safety of organizations. In operational efficiency, the camera can be used for visual verification of various processes and as part of an advanced data-driven sensory network."

Added value
Another feature that highlights the brand is that this camera relies on integrated deep learning for advanced analysis, that is, the AXIS P1468-XLE "includes a deep learning processing unit (DLPU) that allows advanced functions and powerful analysis that run at the edge".

Jesper Olavi, global product manager at Axis, said: "For customers who have wanted to use video surveillance in Zone/Division 2 hazardous locations, so far the only realistic solution has been to use explosion protected cameras certified for Zone/Division 1 hazardous locations. But these heavy-duty cabinets are overdesigned and unnecessarily expensive for Zone 2/Division 2 hazardous locations. With the launch of AXIS P1468-XLE, customers will have the opportunity to bring high-quality video surveillance and advanced analytics to places where they were rarely used before due to prohibitive cost."

Finally, the manager concluded that this new camera highlights the advantages of Axis designing and manufacturing explosion-protected cameras. "By designing each element of the camera, we can ensure that the methods employed for explosion protection are based on the requirements of an individual camera, rather than creating a 'generic' housing designed to fit many cameras. It's a process that leads to an optimal solution for specific environments and use cases."

Security Solutions for Penitentiary Systems Summit - Bienvenida
