Brazil. HID Global shared the details of the development of a project where the ID card printer was implemented, to improve the issuance of IDs. Let's know the details of this project below.
It is a regional cooperative of coffee producers located in the state of Minas Gerais, in southeastern Brazil, which began operations in 1932. Currently, with more than 15,000 members, the organization is one of the largest coffee cooperatives operating in Brazil and is an expert and supplier of premium coffee in the region.
It was common for the cooperative's current ID issuance system to be unusable due to problems with the card printer. Constant difficulties with the printer caused delays in the issuance of ID cards and disrupted the flow of daily operations.
The challenge
The coffee producer was looking for a secure and standardized solution for issuing company identification credentials to both employees and daily visitors. The organization, which has multiple facilities in two states, faced the following challenges:
• Poor credential quality made it difficult to identify staff, delaying the process of secure entry of employees.
• The high cost of the printer and supplies kept operating costs high and put pressure on the budget.
• The operation of the ID issuance system was unreliable, as the printer was often jammed or damaged.
• Issuing identification credentials to employees and visitors took too long and was difficult to manage.
In short, managing the ID issuance system was a daily challenge, which was a waste of time and money for the cooperative. "The cooperative was having constant problems with its old credential issuance system. Among the problems were poor credential quality and frequent printer failures, which undermined its ability to efficiently issue credentials to its employees and visitors on a daily basis," noted Filipe Augusto, sales manager at Stockprint, the systems integrator who led the project.
The solution
Following Stockprint's recommendation, the Brazilian coffee producer implemented a new ID card issuance system, which includes the HID® Fargo® DTC1250e ID card printer and encoder for instant personalization and issuance of corporate ID cards. The Hid Fargo DTC1250e reduces the production time of identifications.
The printer enables high-quality, secure and affordable personalization of photo ID credentials, thanks to which users obtain a durable and visually rich credential. Most importantly, it ensures data protection with AES-256 cryptography. The printer, with direct-to-card printing technology, features an intuitive, user-oriented SmartScreen™ graphic display that enables efficient setup, operation and maintenance. Produce a personalized and secure photo ID card in one step. "
The fact that the DTC1250e does not crash or clog with the cleaning adhesive was an important fact when we introduced the printer, as it was a recurring problem that the customer used to allude to when referring to their previous technology," Augusto explained. The solution was quickly and easily integrated into the organization's current IT system, enabling its HR and infrastructure teams to create, code (read/write), and manage secure credentials from start to finish. Installation took only a few hours, including training in printer operation and troubleshooting training and maintenance procedures for the ID card operations team.
The results
Now the co-op is able to produce 50% more visually appealing full-color credentials in the same amount of time its old printer needed. The HID Fargo printer efficiently issues an average of 50 credentials per week to employees and visitors to the organization. In August 2021, the cooperative printed 75 credentials and just a month later, that number reached 208 printed units. The main benefit of the new system is the speed in the production of credentials.
Additionally, it produced a significant improvement in the quality of credentials compared to the previous system, so that the identification of personnel became easier and more secure. Thanks to the new HID Fargo DTC1250e printer, the cooperative has observed a considerable reduction in the problems of issuing ID cards.
"We are very satisfied with the solution and are experiencing exceptional results," said the cooperative's general assistant. "The ID cards are top quality and delivered quickly. Technical support is always available to us if we have any questions about the operation."
In the wake of this positive experience, the coffee producer plans to soon add two HID Fargo® DTC1250e printers to its system, further strengthening its ability to issue ID cards quickly, efficiently and securely.
