Colombia. In the city of Popayán, capital of the department of Cauca, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed the agreement with the Municipal Administration, through the Ministry of Government, for the implementation of the second phase of the project of "security cameras and closed television system", which seeks to acquire and install 68 more smart cameras, with the aim of combating crime in Popayán and improving citizen security.
The agreement for 5,690 million pesos (about US$1,413,167) will be co-financed by 25% by the Mayor's Office of Popayán with $1,422 million and the remaining 75% corresponding to 4,268 million pesos, will be financed by the Ministry of the Interior.
This investment also contemplates the modernization of the CCTV room from where the cameras will be operated, among other functions, some of them will be able to do facial recognition and vehicle license plates.
This process is in addition to the 42 cameras acquired in phase I of the project, which already work in the city with sufficient technological capacity to combat crime.
The above, as a result of the commitment of Mayor Juan Carlos López Castrillón in his Development Plan "I believe in Popayán" to combat crime and delinquency, strengthening, caring for and technologically monitoring the behavior of the inhabitants of Popayán.
