International. ONVIF reported that there are now more than 20,000 security products compliant with the ONVIF profile. This new milestone underscores the strong market demand for interoperability of hardware and software offerings and the relevance of ONVIF as a leading driver of open standards within physical security.
"ONVIF's mission is simple: to provide and promote open interfaces that in turn will increase end-user freedom of choice," said Leo Levit, Chair of the ONVIF Steering Committee. "Reaching this milestone means there is no doubt that the market considers interoperability, through ONVIF compliance, to be a fundamental requirement in our industry."
Much of the growth related to the number of compliant products has occurred in recent years, as ONVIF exceeded 10,000 compliant products in 2018. This indicates a clear commitment from ONVIF members and the industry at large to create IP-based products and systems that allow users to build, change and grow their system without ownership restrictions. Upcoming ONVIF profiles, specifically the Profile M Release Candidate for metadata, which will be finalized later this year, are expected to drive further growth in the number of compliant products to meet interoperability needs in new operating environments, such as in the cloud and with systems running advanced analytics powered by artificial intelligence.
ONVIF compliant products are produced only by ONVIF member companies and must support at least one ONVIF profile. Products must be registered on the ONVIF list of compliant products to be considered compliant. The conforming products page on the ONVIF website, onvif.org, is the only authorized list of ONVIF compliant products.
More information on ONVIF-compliant products, including member companies and their compliant models, is available on the ONVIF website: www.onvif.org.
