After this introduction, let's learn some stories that Humberto shared with us and some opinions he has in front of the industry.

Security Sales: How was your process of linking to this industry?
Humberto Paim: After a long professional path of many years, I thought I was at the end of my career, working in São Paulo, in the federal public service of Brazil, stable and entered by public tender (of a single vacancy). After 9 years I received an invitation to work in the municipal public service of my hometown in the same activity. I kept in mind that I had little time left to retire, so I gave up federal stability and accepted. A year later, I was exonerated, I could not return to federal service. I went to seek my retirement and found out that there was still some time left to retire due to accounting errors in the past.

It was very hard to take a hit that was not expected and it was a very difficult time for me and my family. No one gives a job to someone 59 years old, my age at the time. I was doing studies and research to start a new job in my area of knowledge when, one day, I was chatting on the Internet with a friend for more than 30 years (Giovanni Ferraz), who at that time worked at Milestone. I told him what happened to me and based on my previous professional experience in Information Technology that he knew, he introduced me to TechnoAware. Passionate about new technologies, the opportunity piqued my interest and thank God, TechnoAware also became interested in my work. Many have welcomed me very well to whom I thank you to this day. Axis and Anixter were the first to support me a lot, and even today many support me. The phrase I heard and was most moved by in the recent past was from someone from another country, physically distant, who knows me for my actions and he said, "You seem like a good person, I'm going to help you." This is priceless and whoever told me knows of my gratitude.

VDS: What are your personal challenges and your next goals to meet personally and professionally?
Humberto: Challenges yes; I don't have fears. I have already done all three important things in a man's life. I have already planted a tree, I have already had a son and I have already written a book ("Internet and Consumer Law", published in 2002, a work that is part of the collection of the library of the Institut Suisse de Droit Comparé (Swiss Institute of Comparative Law) of the Université de Lausanne, Switzerland, in addition to other publications of scientific research works). I always believe in knowledge, and that all those who study a lot and prepare well on any subject that intends to walk through life, should not be afraid.

Professional challenge? "Always be the best at my job." It is the same challenge that my father had, with the same words of him. Now I have another challenge. To be very good in another country, in another house, with other brothers. The first step has already been taken when we won the 2017 ALAS Award for the "Best Security Project in Latin America".

My personal challenge is to be a good reference for my son and my grandchildren so that they are better people than me, in principles and values. Then I will be contributing to a better society.

VDS: What challenges do you face as a professional from the point of view of the relationship with employees and collaborators, technological innovation, staff training, the objectives that must be met in the market?
Humberto: The relationship with everyone in the market, whether internally or externally in the company, is undoubtedly very good, very harmonious and above all very loyal. My closest co-worker and almost brother Antonio Hinz, is an example of that loyalty. Our friendship isn't just at work, it's not mine or his. It is a friendship that comes from our grandparents and this is a much stronger value. But the biggest challenge is to confront those who sell simply for the sake of selling. The most affected are the customers, who believe in the promises and after buying they realize that they do not have the results they expected, which generates a terrible loss of credibility for many products.

VDS: What do you think are the reasons for your recognition in this market?
Humberto: This is an answer I would like to get from the market. I learned from Sara Favero, a former collaborator, that "What you see, everyone sees." So all of us in this market know who people are, we all know which products are good and which are not, but there is ethics, and that's how it has to be. What I always do is be honest and truthful. If it is possible to give an adequate solution to the client, I say that it is possible; if it is not possible, I do not create expectations in the client. There are no fantastic, wonderful and magical solutions like "Fairy Tales", capable of producing miraculous results that always go further, seemingly perfect, but unreal and not always with a happy ending for the client. There are customers who are looking for amazing solutions such as creating, installing and opening an application, entering a username, password, filling out a form with name, surname, company, city, position, phone, email, linkedin, etc. and then answering a lot of previously prepared questions that do not facilitate anything because none of them is what the client needs and finally, send a message.

VDS: What has been the evolution that the industry has had in the years you have been working in it?
Humberto: The market is very large and there is space for everyone, with a multitude of electronic security products of very good quality. However, there is a phrase from my friend Manuel Zamudio (Axis) that I really like and that says: "Technology has evolved, but crime has also evolved. So, whoever continues to use solutions from the last century, don't be surprised by the results."

We are already living 20% of the XXI century and we have far surpassed the customs and technologies of the time of the Jetsons (futuristic family cartoon of 1962), but many people still use old, inadequate and, above all, ineffective solutions. Technologies have evolved so much in such a short time that many people still think we're talking about science fiction when we talk about security technologies and solutions. Some new technologies are well present among us every day, such as Facial Recognition, Nanotechnology (Australia), Autonomous Vehicles, Chain Stores "Just Walk Out" (USA), Flying Men (France), Flying Motorcycles (Dubai), and so on.

VDS: How do you see the future of this industry?
Humberto: Every day more companies seek to provide, and people have, a better quality of life. This happens directly because people are less exposed and less vulnerable to criminal actions. A direct consequence, it is the opposite, to increase vigilance to incessantly seek to reduce crime. Thus, it is always necessary to evolve and have increasingly robust, reliable and effective solutions. In this sense, there is still a vast market to explore in the coming years.

All the integrators of the market are unanimous in saying that Video Analysis (or artificial intelligence) is "The Next Big Thing" until 2030. Video Analytics (or video analytics) is the basis for the most efficient and economical implementation of "Smart Cities". In Brazil there has been talk of Smart Cities since 2012, and it has not yet left the paper because the model foresees the use of other technologies, especially more expensive. Until the technology changes, it will remain on paper because the costs are unfeasible. On the other hand, many Latin American countries are thirsty to have and use the best and latest technologies, and this is very commendable. I have a lot of confidence in this market in the region in the coming years.

VDS: Tell us about your family.
Humberto: Me and my lady have been married for 18 years, both of us at second weddings. I have a son from my first wedding and two grandchildren. My lady also has a son from her first wedding. I like a lot of hobbies: travel, dance, music and sports, in that order. I am a fan of Santos F.C. in Brazil. What I love most about myself is being true and honest, an inheritance of my grandparents and my parents. Commitment to the truth. The one I like least about myself is that I want everything to always be true and I am very demanding, and that makes me a very boring person.
