This article will discuss the use of management software to achieve a complete integration of security systems in Federal Government buildings in Brazil.

In Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, some buildings of the Federal Government required surveillance and security systems that guaranteed the protection of public heritage, as well as employees and users.
In approximately 10,000 m2 covered by several government buildings, a security project was installed that sought to mitigate the robberies that occurred mainly in parking areas and inside the buildings and to protect them from the constant demonstrations that have been held in the Ministries.
The security system protects approximately 7,000 users who work in the eight buildings daily, in addition to the 13,000 monthly visitors.
The project required the integration of video surveillance with other security systems such as access control, fire detection, perimeter control and data centers. Milestone XProtect Corporate's software was chosen for this integration, due to the need to link various system features with their respective images.
"The fact that Milestone is an open software and the potential of the SDK platform allowed the integration quickly and efficiently," explained Ronaldo Moscoso, manager of electronic security and intelligence for buildings of the Orion Group.
Installation
The systems were installed in several buildings and in different locations. Each building has at least one recording server and in the most relevant sites, in addition to the recording server, there is storage to archive the images. For the control of the systems there is a monitoring center 24 hours a day. The installation of all the infrastructure and equipment, as well as the configuration, took four months.
In one of the buildings, the Operations Center was installed to monitor the 800 cameras and the entry of people passing through the turnstiles. This place has all the security available and a system that operates uninterruptedly 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with operators covering 12x36 hour shifts.
It should be noted that maintenance is carried out with a management team of four technicians, a supervisor and operators in the central surveillance system.
For CCTV, solutions such as:
- Milestone XProtect Corporate
- 800 Axis cameras of models M3203, P3384-V, P3384-VE, P3354, M3011 and Q6035-E
- Allied AT-8000S-POE and AT-x600 Switches
- DELL PowerEdge R210II Administration Server
- DELL PowerEdge R720 Live Database servers with 15K rpm disks in RAID-10
For storage there are:
- DELL PowerVault M3200i
- Dell Precision T3600 Video Analysis Server
- Display stations that are also Precision T3600, (with two 22" monitors in each station). For the visualization of the integration of access control with CCTV, the Xprotect SmartClient application was implemented.
In addition to the 800 cameras, the project also included the installation of AgentVi video analysis licenses, Wolpac turnstiles for people access control, card readers and HID biometrics.
Ronaldo explains that the integration with the access control system allows the linking of the images of the instant of a user's validation in the turnstiles. In this security system there is a service that monitors the validation of user access and at the moment in which the validation has been given a marker is created with the data of the person who has entered.
"In this way the investigation of the accesses is carried out directly in the application, speeding up the audit of the event." In addition to presenting instant access in the Smart Client, the system displays the photo of the registered user allowing identification and verification in case there is improper use of the cards.
Likewise, Moscoso explains that in most public buildings, emergency doors are used for access to the different floors instead of using elevators, which is why the moment of opening of those doors is integrated with their respective images.
When the door is opened, the cameras send a message to the integration service that generates a marker with the event data (floor number and emergency door number), in addition to sending an alert to the monitoring center and the case is preset in the configurations.
Likewise, the integration with the Data Center is carried out by receiving a message from CMC, the solution that manages all the systems of the Data Center: generator, UPS, fire detection, temperature, air conditioning, etc.
Ronaldo Moscoso explains that in case any alarm is presented in the Data Center, the CMC sends a message to the integration service to create a marker with the event information and sends an e-mail or a text message depending on the importance of the event and alerts the operator.
For the management of the system, the training of the personnel was carried out by the Orion Group, the company in charge of carrying out the installation. Through the trainings carried out, it was possible to integrate the systems and train the officials involved in the project. Manuals were also created with the main functionalities of operator mode so that they could work the tool.
As the main advantage and benefit of Milestone's XProtec Corporate solution, Ronaldo highlights the functionalities of the software, as well as its stability, robustness and possibility of integration with any type of system, which is why this solution was chosen for the project. "Since the system was installed, thefts have decreased, especially in the internal and external areas," he says.

The Challenge
Some Federal Government buildings in Brazil required a complete security system to protect employees and visitors, as well as facilities, and provide a high level of security.
The solution: Milestone XProtect Corporate Video Management Software (VMS) manages the integration of CCTV with access control, managing and storing images from 800 Axis cameras installed on the premises.
The advantages: Since the system was installed, robberies have decreased inside and outside the premises. The software allows all systems to be integrated and that all situations that arise can be controlled, in addition to meeting the demands of the end user in terms of security.
