Roberto Larreal Socorro from Venezuela: commitment to service

Travel, security, family and especially his children fill the life of Roberto Larreal, a young professional who has marked a path in the security industry in Venezuela.

By Ana María Restrepo

When we take charge of our lives, tastes, hobbies and dreams guide the way forward, but the example of those we love, their optimism and commitment help us to achieve those goals we have set, even if our destiny changes; as did Ana de Larreal, mother of Roberto Larreal Socorro (our professional of the month), who being a doctor by profession, dedicated herself with her husband to the world of electronic security almost 20 years ago, accumulating together invaluable experiences that have been transmitted to their two children, Roberto and Gustavo, who are in charge of Favinca Sistemas de Seguridad.

This family has dedicated most of their time to the electronic security industry in Venezuela. At present each of the members of the family continue in the company; the parents, Victor and Ana, serve as Vice President and President of the company, Gabriel as Managing Director and Roberto as General Director.

On March 21, 1988, Favinca Sistemas de Seguridad was founded, a company that in its beginnings was dedicated to the sale and installation of fire detection systems for commercial premises and burglar alarm systems both residentially and commercially.
Years later the business was growing due to negotiations and alliances with different industries and companies, such as the agreements established with ADEMCO, manufacturer of alarm systems, belonging to the Pittway group, and later to Honeywell, as well as with Pelco, which allowed the company to have direct access to equipment recognized in the electronic security industry and open its field of coverage to the different states of Venezuela.

Continuing along the path of growth, the incorporation of new technologies and training for personnel allowed the company to develop larger projects that would position it even more in the Venezuelan security market.

By 2003, the company began its expansion nationwide with the opening of the first branch in the city of San Cristóbal, Táchira state, and in 2004 the Alarm Monitoring department was created.

At present, and thanks to the achievements achieved at the beginning of its history, Favinca has become a company recognized in Venezuela as a provider of electronic security products and services in the west of the country, achievements that the Larreal Socorro Family has achieved together with the group of partners and the more than 30 collaborators who work in it.

Installation of a life

Like Favinca, Roberto Larreal has experienced changes in his life from the moment he was born until today, 32 years later, moments that have taught him, that have helped him grow and that have made him a recognized professional in his country and in the Latin security industry.

On October 10, 1975 was born in Maracaibo, in the State of Zulia, Venezuela, this young professional, who years later graduated from TSU in Electronics. "I started in the electronic security industry at a very young age when I worked part-time as a security system installer assistant at my family's company."

From that moment his working life takes place in the company. These 15 years of work give him the experience and knowledge to be able to say that the biggest challenge he faces is to achieve that the company's mission to be widely recognized nationally, leader in the market of integral electronic security solutions, with advanced technology and a human resource oriented to excellence in customer service, it becomes a reality through the daily work of managers and collaborators.

Likewise, he believes that as a manager the challenge is to maintain dynamism in the legal and labor aspects (since they are going through a stage of strong changes in the country), in order not to negatively affect their operations; and technologically, the imperative is to be more creative and look for new applications for local needs, keep the work team updated with technical training and continue to strengthen ties with its commercial allies and manufacturers.

One life and two cities

Who would believe that Roberto's life is lived in two Venezuelan cities; one where his roots, his family and his children are, and another where his business and professional life are; however, he has managed his time in such a way that neither claims his presence from the other.

At six in the morning on a Monday, Larreal begins his day in Maracaibo and at about nine in the morning he takes a plane that takes him to Caracas where he meets with about 10 people, including clients and team members to follow up on projects in execution and new requirements by customers.

Already in the Caracas office he is dedicated to answering emails and doubts from project engineers about any design that is being carried out, and in the afternoon, after lunch with clients or with other managers, he meets with his collaborators to make important decisions, although sometimes your routine changes and you have an appointment with a corporate client. At about 10 o'clock at night, after a day and a night full of work, Larreal ends his workday.

"This work train remains like this until Wednesday, since on Thursdays I return to Maracaibo on the 5:30 pm flight, and on Fridays I am there meeting all day; this is always a day of consecutive decisions."

Parent roles

Although Roberto is divorced, his children are the two pillars that keep him upright, they, Roberto Andrés, 13, and Paula Viviana, 10, represent his pride and inspiration.

Like every parent, Larreal shares weekends and special days with his children and family, as well as enjoying other hobbies such as going on a trip, listening to music, reading and playing baseball and soccer with his son.

As a good memory in his life, Roberto mentions "I had the opportunity to play professional baseball two years in the United States and it left me an irreplaceable experience, in addition in youth categories I had already represented my state and my country in international championships in that discipline".

Industrial development

Returning to that labor and professional chapter, Roberto believes that despite being part of the electronic security industry for so long, it is constantly changing, which is why keeping up with everything that happens in the medium is of utmost importance, at the same time the constant training of all team members is imperative, you want to be at the forefront of the competition. "There is still much to learn, a long way to go and I look forward with a lot of optimism and faith in God, very much in spite of the political situation in our country," he says.

On the other hand, Larreal sees with very good eyes the expansion of the electronic security market in Latin America, however, he considers that a greater degree of collective awareness and security culture is still needed if we compare the countries of the region with other developed states , for the advances that have been made in recent years have been abysmal.

Regarding the evolution that electronic security has had in Venezuela, Larreal explains that the banking sector has been a pioneer in the evolution of the industry in the country, as it has been one of the economic sectors that most incorporates and invests in this area.

In the same way, he explains that "the market for CCTV solutions is the one that has grown the most in my opinion in the last five years, the market for intrusion and monitoring service grows at a rate of approximately 35% per year, we started our monitoring company three years ago and the growth has been sustained".

Roberto affirms that companies that are dedicated to security are being born in Venezuela and that every day companies from other areas of technology incorporate electronic security systems into their product portfolio.

Education, training and updating

In terms of updating professionals and technicians in the industry, Roberto believes that there are important initiatives such as wings offers for the different branches of electronic security; in addition, business organizations, security companies, and manufacturers are developing educational programs to enhance staff capabilities.
"I think we must make greater efforts at the union level in Venezuela to increase the technical level of engineering and facilities personnel."

And as for the future, Larreal has an intermediate position, he believes that it will improve, but at the same time he thinks the delay in the acquisition of foreign currencies hinders the import process, however he thinks that in relation to demand it will continue to increase, mainly due to the socio-political climate of the country.
