Argentina. The Government of Córdoba confirmed the security plans that will be advanced, including the adoption of new cameras and video surveillance domes in the capital city, in addition to adding jobs to monitor what happens on public roads.
Similarly, the Government announced the expansion and renewal of functions in the Center for Communications and Citizen Video Surveillance of the Police of Córdoba (which operates in the headquarters building, Colón Avenue at 1200), for which the Province tendered the necessary construction works.
The official budget to carry out the building improvements in the aforementioned center amounts to 637 million pesos (about US$2.6 million).
According to the project, in the future 148 monitoring posts will operate, which will observe fixed cameras and domes. It is also expected to have a total of 3,500 cameras in different sectors of the city.
The Government explained that the project will be implemented in stages and that as progress is made with the installation of new domes, more monitoring posts will also be added.
Regarding the operators who currently view cameras and domes, in a first stage more than 30 new positions will be incorporated, with properly trained personnel. "We are going to reach 100 positions soon," said the director of the Center for Communication and Citizen Video Surveillance, Martín Barrientos.
Permanent control
Since its creation, 65 operators have worked in the monitoring center for operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These operators work in tune with their five respective coordinators (one per zone: center, north, south, east and west) and one general coordinator, in five rotating guards.
In other words, for the video surveillance service the city of Córdoba was divided into zones. Each zone has a coordinator, who reports to the general coordinator. This, in turn, is linked to the general supervisor of the 911 line.
Barrientos anticipated that this service "will continue to operate as it does today, in connection to the 911 central and immediately reporting everything that is seen in the cameras, supervised by zonal coordinators and a general coordinator."
Expansion of the operational center
In the bidding ceremony, carried out by the provincial Ministry of Public Works, to expand and modify functions of the Citizen Communications and Video Surveillance Center, the bids to execute the works were presented by the companies Pablo Federico e Hijos SA and Sayic SRL.
The construction period is four months and it is expected to start the work in 45 days, after the technical and economic evaluation of the offers.
Currently, the monitoring room used to control what happens on public roads in the city of Córdoba occupies an area of 408 square meters. With the planned building works, the space will be expanded to 750 square meters.
This sector will be equipped with monitoring posts, desks with two-monitor computers, dimmable lighting, videowall of 25 linear meters, automatic access doors, and all the laying and equipment of weak signals that is necessary.
Regarding the expansion of the monitoring center, Barrientos said: "Being larger and with the planned building improvements, the place will have another format, it will be divided in another way, it will allow interaction more effectively."
Finally, he added: "We will change the diagram so that the staff works more comfortably and we achieve greater efficiency; The sectors will be well determined and the bridge crossings will be well linked."
